MUD Season!

So this is one of my favorite times of the year, even if my parents don’t agree.

MUD season.  Yup.  Snow is melting and there are swampy puddles all over the woods full of good smells. (Again, my mom disagrees.).  But she still takes me hiking and out for walks a lot, even if it rains.

This spring I discovered a new birdlike thing.  It can fly, but it seems to like walking on the ground better.  Mom calls it a grouse and she said I should be nice and don’t chase it.  Honestly, if it didn’t want me to chase it then it should fly like the rest of the birds.

Out back we have a really pretty swamp pond – it’s a pond until the summer, then the water magically seems to get lower, and it becomes a swamp.  I really like it but Mom won’t let me go in, unless she doesn’t see me before I make it in!  Sometimes she thinks I’m behind a bush doing my daily business, but I trick her.  Then she catches on, the collar beeps and all I hear is ‘get back up here NOW!’ (It’s okay if she yells at me because I know she loves me.)

There’s also a lot of rivers we go to in the spring, because I’m not supposed to hike up the mountains when the trails still have ice on them.  So, we go for walks along some of the hiking roads instead.  There’re no cars there yet so I get walk right down the road and sniff everything.

You should definitely see some of these cool river spots when you come up to visit – my Mom can tell you where they are!
