Welcome to February in the White Mountains!
There are so many reasons we are the winter playground of the Northeast.
Skiing is usually the first thing that comes to mind and we are conveniently located between several great ski resorts. Bretton Woods is the closest at a mere 6 miles away. Cannon Mountain is just 11 miles away, Loon Mountain 24.6 miles, Attitash Mountain 26.4 miles, and Wildcat and Cranmore Mountains are just over 30 miles away. Plenty of options depending on your day!
For those looking for a different ski, Bretton Woods and Bartlett both offer miles of cross-country ski trails. There are also designated ski areas in the surrounding area for those with their own gear.
Another fun outdoor activity – Bring out your inner kid and try sledding or snow tubing. There are a couple great hills in the area free of charge with your own sleds, or you can rent a tube at the Nordic center at Bretton Woods and go up and down a nice fast well-groomed trail!
For a little more speed and a little less physical work you can snowmobile right from our property with your own sleds or you can rent for the day just 6 miles away in Bretton Woods. They also offer guided tours for newbies.
Snowshoeing and winter hiking are another great activity and snowshoe rentals are available from both Drummonds and the Nordic center at Bretton Woods. They also offer guided snowshoe tours, including special full moon tours once a month called Nordic Nights.
Looking for something a little more relaxing and romantic yet still be out in the snow? Two words for you – Sleigh Ride! Yes, they have group sleigh rides available but hey – what’s better than a little romantic ride through the snow with your special someone!
Last, but not least. Ever hear of a little thing called Ice Castles? Just 22 miles away, tucked into a farm in Woodstock is the most amazing ice-cold creation. There are ice slides and tunnels and an incredible enchanted forest to walk through. This is great for grown-ups and kids alike. Just be sure to call or go online ahead of time for tickets. This is popular and can book up quickly.
